At BigClash, we want gambling to stay what it should be: a form of entertainment. For most people it is a bit of fun, but for some it can become harmful. This page explains how to keep your play under control, the tools we provide to help, and where to find free, confidential support in Canada if you or someone you know needs it.
Need to talk to someone now? If gambling has stopped being fun, help is free, confidential and available 24/7. In Ontario, call ConnexOntario at 1-866-531-2600 (or text CONNEX to 247247). Your provincial helpline is listed further down this page. In an emergency, call 911.
Our commitment
We are committed to providing a safer gambling environment. That means clear rules, age and identity verification to keep out minors, tools that put you in control of your time and money, and easy access to professional support. We train our team to recognise the signs of problem gambling and to point players towards help.
Keeping gambling fun
A few simple habits go a long way toward keeping play healthy:
– Treat gambling as entertainment, not as a way to make money or pay off debts.
– Only gamble with money you can afford to lose — never with money set aside for essentials.
– Set a budget and a time limit before you start, and stick to them.
– Don’t chase losses. Trying to win back what you’ve lost usually makes things worse.
– Never gamble to escape stress, boredom, loneliness or low mood.
– Take regular breaks, and don’t gamble when tired or under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
– Balance gambling with other activities and interests.
Could gambling be a problem?
It may be time to pause and reach out if you (or someone you care about):
– Spend more time or money than planned, or more than you can afford;
– Chase losses or bet bigger to try to win back what’s gone;
– Borrow money, sell things, or use funds needed elsewhere to keep playing;
– Hide how much or how often you gamble from people close to you;
– Gamble to escape problems or difficult feelings;
– Feel restless or irritable when trying to cut down or stop;
– Let gambling affect work, study, sleep, relationships or health.
None of these makes you a bad person, and none of them is permanent. They are signals to take seriously — and support is available. The Responsible Gambling Council offers a free, confidential self-assessment at responsiblegambling.org.
Tools to help you stay in control
You can use the following tools at any time. To set up or adjust them, go to your account settings or contact our support team at [email protected], and we will action your request as quickly as possible.
– Deposit limits: cap how much you can deposit per day, week or month.
– Loss & wager limits: set a ceiling on how much you can lose or stake over a period.
– Session limits: limit how long a single playing session can last.
– Reality checks: receive reminders of how long you’ve been playing.
– Cooling-off (time-out): take a short break, from 24 hours up to several weeks.
– Self-exclusion: close access for 6 months, 1 year, 5 years, or permanently.
Self-exclusion
If you need a longer or permanent break, self-exclusion blocks you from logging in and playing for the period you choose. During self-exclusion we will also stop sending you marketing communications and will not reopen your account before the period ends. To self-exclude, contact [email protected]. You can also self-exclude from regulated operators through provincial programs — for example, BetGuard from iGaming Ontario, BCLC’s GameSense in British Columbia, and programs run by the AGLC in Alberta.
Protecting minors
Gambling is strictly for adults. You must be of legal gambling age in your province — 19 in most of Canada, and 18 in Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec. We verify age and identity, and we do not allow anyone underage to hold an account. If children have access to your device, we strongly recommend using parental-control and website-blocking software to prevent underage access. Widely used options include Net Nanny, Qustodio, and the blocking tools listed below. Keep your login details private and do not let anyone underage watch or take part in your play.
Blocking software
If you’d like to block access to gambling sites across your devices, these free tools can help:
– BetBlocker — free software that blocks thousands of gambling sites on multiple devices: betblocker.org
– Gamban — blocking software for phones and computers: gamban.com
You can also ask your bank whether it offers gambling-transaction blocks on your cards or accounts.
